Welcome to the world of New World, where new patches and updates are always exciting! This patch in particular is a big one, with lots of changes to weapons and combat overall. In this guide, we'll be taking a look at the changes to the Fire Staff, Hatchet, Blunderbuss, and Musket - all of which received significant balance changes in this patch.
The Fire Staff received both buffs and nerfs with this patch. On the buff side, the AoE upgrade for the Fire Staff had its projectile speed reduced by 25, fixing an issue where it couldn't be blocked or parried. On the nerf side, Flamethrower had its damage reduced from 50 to 100 weapon damage per second, and the Accelerating Flamethrower perk activation window was reduced to make it clearer and reduce the amount of stacks of Smolder needed to trigger the effect.
The Hatchet also received some changes. Defy Death was changed to gain 50 base HP (before modifiers) instead of 50 max HP, and a bug was fixed where hard gem abilities would ignore the Defy Death Hatchet ability. Some incorrect attribute values on multiple Season 1 Hatchets were also corrected.
The Blunderbuss had its Shrapnel Blast reduced in terms of damage and the Azle Shrapnel Blast had its damage reduced per consecutive pellet hit. Claw Shot had its cancel window reduced to reduce its burst damage potential when used in combos.
the Musket had its camera rotation accuracy penalty reduced by 20%. This is an interesting change since it could make it so that the accuracy perk is no longer necessary. Male Oreo has done some testing on the PTR and is able to hit a lot of shots with no accuracy perk activated. We'll have to wait and see if this change will have a significant effect in PvP, where ping comes into play.
Fortifying Perforate reduces the 40 piper stack from 9.6 on armor and 70 on weapons to 5.8 on armor and 10 on weapons. This is a big change for heavy spear users and light armor users, but it won't make as much of a difference for musket users.
Model Empowerment gives players a stack of two percent damage bonus for each kill, with a maximum of ten stacks. This gives musket users a big advantage, as they can safely sit far away from the action and get kills.
Elemental Attunements now do 14 damage instead of 18, which is a much more balanced amount. This makes other perks more effective in comparison, although it still depends on the target's resilience.
Shot of Consecrated Iron is now an eligible drop for players of all levels. This is a big change, as it was previously only a drop for low-level players on named AI. The drop tables have been adjusted to make it easier to get the item, although it is still rare.
The XP for leveling up the Music Trade Skill has also been adjusted to be in line with the new music XP curve. This should make it easier for musket users to level up their music skills.
Finally, there are several changes to the Season rewards and activities, including the ability to craft Flame Crosses and a new Season Activity task to craft Flame Crosses. There are also changes to the Season XP rewards, including a bonus of 25 Season XP for every 10,000 Player XP earned from any activity.
