Diablo 4 Sorcerer Guide: Season 1 Patch Wishlist

The Sorcerer class in Diablo 4 has captured the hearts of many players with its magical abilities and playstyle. However, there are several issues that need to be addressed to improve the overall experience of playing as a Sorcerer. In this guide, we will discuss the key areas where the class needs improvement and the changes we hope to see in the upcoming Season 1 patch.

Squishiness:

The Sorcerer class currently suffers from being too squishy, making survival a constant challenge, especially in higher difficulty levels. The low base armor and health, combined with the broken elemental resistances, put Sorcerers at a disadvantage. A quick solution would be to increase the base armor or provide a defensive enchantment slot specifically for Sorcerers to mitigate this issue.

Enchantment Slots:

Sorcerers are limited to only two enchantment slots, which severely restricts their flexibility in choosing defensive and offensive options. Adding a third enchantment slot would allow Sorcerers to make more strategic decisions, such as opting for defensive enchantments like Flame Shield without sacrificing necessary offensive capabilities. This change would greatly enhance the Sorcerer's gameplay experience.

Balancing Enchantments:

The current enchantments available for Sorcerers have a significant disparity in power, making some choices feel like default options. Fireball Enchantment, for instance, provides an overwhelming damage increase and damage reduction, making it the obvious choice in most situations. To promote build diversity and decision-making, weaker enchantments like Incinerate need buffs to make them more appealing and competitive.

Fire Skills and Burning:

While Fireball Enchantment is currently too strong, other fire skills suffer from being underpowered. Burning as a damage-over-time mechanic needs improvement, both in terms of damage output and burn speed. To make fire-based builds more viable, skills like Firewall and Burning Damage should be reworked to offer unique benefits, such as applying vulnerability to enemies or enhancing damage against burned targets.

Unique Items:

The unique items available for Sorcerers require significant rebalancing. Many of them provide unimpressive bonuses or come at the cost of reduced damage output. Sorcerers need unique items that offer meaningful and powerful effects, similar to the Gloves of the Dominator. Furthermore, decoupling the requirement to use all four defensive skills would allow for more build variety and encourage the use of additional offensive skills.

Mastery Skills and Secondary Effects:

Mastery skills need to be more than just upgraded versions of core skills. They should offer additional effects that make them attractive beyond pure damage output. For example, adding secondary effects like applying vulnerability or increasing critical chance would make skills like Via's Mastery and Firewall more compelling options in builds.

Mana Management:

While mana issues exist during the leveling phase, they tend to resolve themselves in the endgame with access to infinite mana. The focus should remain on improving the Sorcerer's overall gameplay experience rather than solely addressing mana management. However, minor adjustments to skills like Atlash, which restores more mana per cast, could provide a better leveling experience.

Conclusion:

The Sorcerer class in Diablo 4 has immense potential, but it currently faces several challenges that need to be addressed. By implementing changes such as improving squishiness, adding a third enchantment slot, balancing enchantments, reworking unique items, and enhancing secondary effects on mastery skills, the Sorcerer class can become more engaging and competitive. With the Season 1 patch approaching, it is our hope that these changes will be implemented, offering Sorcerers the necessary improvements to shine alongside other classes in the game.
