Welcome to another crafting adventure in Path of Exile! In this guide, we'll delve into the process of crafting a top-tier chest piece for your character. Crafting can be a challenging and rewarding endeavour, and today, we'll focus on upgrading a chest piece for our almost-second character.
Finding the Right Base Item
Crafting a powerful chest piece starts with finding the correct base item. It's crucial to choose a base that complements your character's build. In this case, we've acquired a rare base item with both "Armour is increased by #% of maximum Fire Resistance" and "Evasion Rating is increased by #% of maximum Cold Resistance" modifiers. These special hybrid modifiers can only be found on newly dropped or identified rare items, so keep an eye out for these mods when searching for a base.
Why are these modifiers so valuable? Well, if your character has a substantial amount of Fire Resistance due to your Ascendancy choices, the increased Cold Resistance will grant you a substantial boost in armor, making it an excellent choice for a Chieftain character.
Crafting Process
Prefixes and Eldritch Influence
Before we begin crafting, let's understand our crafting goals. We're primarily interested in crafting suffixes, as the prefixes are already set with the desired modifiers. To achieve this, we'll use Eldritch Orbs to influence our item. Remember to use Eldritch Orbs exclusively, as they only affect suffixes, ensuring that our precious prefixes remain untouched.
Suffix Goals
Our objective for suffixes is to obtain any two tier 2 resistances, and finally, we aim for a tier 1 Intelligence modifier ranging from 51 to 55. These suffixes will significantly boost our character's survivability and damage.
Crafting Process
Apply Eldritch Influence: Use Eldritch Orbs to add Eldritch Influence to the item.
Roll Tier 2 Resists: Use Eldritch Orbs until you hit any two tier 2 resistances.
Remove Undesirable Mods: If you accidentally roll a tier 1 Intelligence modifier (which we want as a suffix), use an Eldritch Null to remove it.
Add Strength and Dexterity: Craft the item with Strength and Dexterity modifiers to block those undesired mods.
Use Eldritch Orbs: Continue using Eldritch Orbs to try and roll the tier 1 Intelligence modifier as one of the suffixes.
Crafting Tip: Be patient and persistent; it might take several attempts to hit the desired suffixes.
Crafting in Practice
Now, let's take a look at how this crafting process unfolds in practice:
Use Eldritch Orbs to apply Eldritch Influence.
Roll for tier 2 resistances.
If you mistakenly roll a tier 1 Intelligence modifier, use an Eldritch Null to remove it.
Add Strength and Dexterity to block those undesired mods.
Continue using Eldritch Orbs to roll for the tier 1 Intelligence modifier.
Crafting Mistake: In the video, the player mistakenly fractured a mod instead of using locks to prevent unwanted outcomes. Fracturing without locks can be costly and risky.
Perfecting the Item
With patience and persistence, the player successfully crafts an impressive chest piece that boasts increased armor and resistances. The final touch involves maximizing the item's quality, which includes:
Raising the item's quality to 30%.
Perfectly rolling the item's attributes.
Applying white sockets through Harvest crafting.
While the crafting journey may have had its ups and downs, the final result is a powerful chest piece that significantly boosts the character's survivability and damage output.
Crafting in Path of Exile can be a complex and sometimes expensive process, but with dedication and careful planning, you can create exceptional gear for your character. Remember to learn from any crafting mistakes and use the tools available to maximize your chances of success. Happy crafting, Exiles!
