I've spent quite some time exploring the Abattoir of Zir and pushing my limits, especially with my Penetrating Shot Rogue build. I'd like to share with you the best and worst monster sets and maps.
Pushing Through the Tiers:
The difficulty spike beyond tier 10 or 11 was noticeable. Monsters gain approximately 19% HP per tier increase, but their damage output remains the same.
Top Tier Skeletons and Red Spiders
It offers a safe and dense environment, perfect for farming and progression. The spiders, in particular, provide significant experience yields, which allowed me to clear Tier 14 with this set.
High Tier - Skeletons and Poison Spiders
It is similar to the top-tier combo, but is slightly more challenging due to the additional danger posed by the poison spiders.
Mid Tier - Skeletons and Drowned
Avoid crowd control challenges from charging enemies. Most enemies are easier, but Skeleton archers can pose a challenge.
Lower Tiers - Bandits and Cultists, Cannibals, Pets, and Knights
Combinations such as these require careful handling of explosive arrows and shielding mechanisms. Effective crowd control is critical in this situation.
Challenging Combos - Skeletons and Cold Spiders, and Others
Especially cold spiders, which have freezing projectiles and tend to stay at a distance, pose a unique challenge.
Difficult Tiers - Demons, Flies, Fallen, Vampires
In particular, vampires' immunity phases and snakes' stunning abilities present significant challenges.
Mapping the Way:
The Foreboding Temple stands out as a particularly effective map for this strategy. Open, expansive maps generally provide better opportunities for progression due to the ability to pull enemies in multiple directions. On the other hand, more enclosed maps such as the Barracks or Heathen's Keep may prove more challenging, particularly for builds which rely on a high enemy density.
Pro tips:
Farming efficiently: Selecting monster sets that align with your build's strengths will increase your success rate substantially.
Sigil Powder Management: If you wish to conserve Sigil Powder, consider waiting outside the dungeon before reentering to reset. This can save you significant resources in the long run.
Final Thoughts:
My experience at Zir Abattoir has been both challenging and enlightening. It has been a pleasure to refine my strategies, particularly after the upcoming hotfixes promised to make it even better. Best of luck to you in your Diablo 4 journey, and I look forward to sharing more insights in the future.
