Are you new to Final Fantasy XIV? If so, you may be surprised by the friendly atmosphere of the game's zone chat. Unlike many other MMORPGs, FF14 does not have a toxic environment where players are constantly arguing or complaining about each other's performance. This is due to Square Enix's strict rules, which all players must abide by.
If you're coming from an MMO like Elder Scrolls Online or World of Warcraft, here are six things you should never do in FF14, or risk getting banned:
1. Never talk about mods in chat, even if you aren't using them. Though some players do use mods, it's against the terms of service, so it's best to keep quiet about them.
2. Don't DPS check people. This is a big no-no since it implies that you're modding and is against the rules.
3. Never harass someone over their DPS. It's not only against the rules but also incredibly rude.
4. Don't be weird in DMs or ERP (erotic roleplay) without consent. This is a rule everywhere but is especially true for FF14.
5. Never engage in real money trading FFXIV Gil. This is explicitly against the terms of service.
6. Don't talk about politics. This is not allowed in FF14, so it's best to avoid discussing it.
Additionally, anything deemed too negative can get you suspended. This includes words like stupid, idiot, and garbage. Never blame anyone for wiping, and never ask them how they managed to screw something up. Also, never tell someone to quit or change classes because they suck. If you don't have anything constructive to say, it's best to keep your comments to yourself. By following these rules, you can help keep FF14 a friendly and enjoyable environment for all players.
